Stewart Edmondson: Featured Artist

24 June - 26 July 2023

Stewart is a contemporary landscape artist who is renowned for his paintings of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, and, more recently the spectacular North Cornwall coast. Working 'en plein air' throughout the seasons and in all weathers, Stewart draws inspiration from the light and energy of his dramatic rural surroundings, allowing the physical effect of rain and wind to contribute to the surface details of his works.

This new collection of watercolour and mixed media paintings are inspired by the landscape around the Cornish village of Polzeath and the Camel Estuary. The exhibition will also include a a series of works painted in and around North Cornwall's bluebell woods in the spring of 2023.

Stewart works outdoors in all weathers, painting quickly and dynamically. He draws his inspiration from the unique sense of the location he is working in, constantly pursuing the idea that painting is an alchemy between artist and place. Stewart's work responds to the light and energy of his dramatic rural surroundings, and he allows the elements to make their mark and have a major effect on the final outcome of each painting.
