Overview

Using traditional oil painting methods, Nell Kerr makes close cropped and emphatic studies of moving water, from crashing waves to the sparkling beauty of placid ripples. She details the simple magic of water as the light changes throughout the day, and its movement and inherent energy changes throughout the seasons. Her work is informed by regular time spent in, on and beside the water. Her studio sits right next to a stream that feeds into the Helford River in Cornwall, and she is often out in her Canadian canoe, gathering ideas and reference material for her painting.

Nell has lived in many coastal places and grew up around water, due to her father's job at sea. After completing her Art Foundation studies at Plymouth College of Art and Design, she went on to do a BA in Fine Art at Coventry University School of Art, specialising in painting. She moved to Cornwall in 2004. Her work has been exhibited across the UK and is held in private collections in the UK and abroad.
